The Center for Latin American Studies considers proposals to organize or co-sponsor faculty- and student-led initiatives from the University of Florida, as well as from other academic and cultural institutions. These initiatives include but are not limited to, conferences, lectures, invited speakers, community engagement, arts initiatives, and other events both on- and off-campus. If you wish to propose a speaker for one of the Center’s lecture series, you’re welcome to do so. We also accept proposals for a Spanish-speaking audience. Please check the LAS Event Calendar before submitting a request. Multiple events on the same day will not be considered for funding. All funding requests will have a response within 15 working days.
The UF Center for Latin American Studies' Annual Conference is held in the spring. Past conferences have discussed the struggles for democracy in Latin America, alternative visions of development across the region, buen vivir and other post-development pathways, indigenous peoples and cultures, religion and identity in the Americas, and more!
The Latinamericanist is the Center for Latin American Studies' newsletter. The newsletter is published every Fall and Spring semester and provides an overview of Center events, student and faculty spotlights, Center announcements, and much more.
