Just International Science: Reimagining Collaborations | An Equity-Centered Approach to Academic Writing
with Jordi A. Rivera Prince, PhD RPA
Friday, March 29 | 3:00 pm | Reitz Union G330

Scholars have increasingly turned a critical gaze to fieldwork, evaluating how to design and complete more equitable research. However, the writing process receives less attention in this conversation. In this talk, Rivera Prince focuses on academic writing, as peer-reviewed publication is the moment when knowledge production is instantiated, and therefore a key space for contesting power structures within academia. She introduces a writing method that she and her community coauthors have been practicing for three years, which centers joy, personal relationships, care, and trust, over an individualistic writing approach. This method has resulted in multiple products, including peer-reviewed publications, that have challenged current models of publication and offers a potential writing method to increase research transparency.
