Focus session with UF-LAS alumni Dr. Judith Anderson 

About Dr. Anderson:

Judith Anderson is a cultural anthropologist, Afro-Latin Americanist, and Associate Professor in the Department of Ethnic and Race Studies at CUNY Borough of Manhattan Community College (BMCC). She graduated with a Ph.D. in Anthropology and Advanced Graduate Certificate in Latin American Studies from the University of Florida. She has created and led study abroad programs to both Argentina and Brazil. Since 2005 she has been researching Black political organizing in Argentina, Latin America’s famed “European” or White nation. Her publications include “Blackness, Race, and Politics in Argentina” (2021) with co-author Patricia Gomes for the Oxford Research Encyclopedia of Politics and “The Impossible Black Argentine Political Subject” (2018) published by Routledge Press. Dr. Anderson is also the cofounder and lead consultant of the Organización Afrodescendiente para la Asistencia Jurídica y Formación (OAFRO), Argentina’s first Black legal aid organization.
