Speaker: Irene Yolanda Aké Ché, Profesora de lengua y cultura maya en el Centro de Español y Maya de la Universidad Autónoma de Campeche, Mexico

Biography: IRENE YOLANDA AKÉ CHÉ is originally from Konchén, Hopelchén, Campeche, Mexico. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in History from the Autonomous University of Campeche in Mexico. She is a Professor of Mayan Language and Culture at the Center for Spanish and Mayan of the Autonomous University of Campeche. 

She has taken Mayan language and culture courses in various Educational Institutions in the Yucatan Peninsula. She has a Diploma in "Mayan Grammar" and "Training for Mayan Language Teachers" by the Peninsular Center of Humanities and Social Sciences of the Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) Mérida Campus and holds a Diploma in "Training of Language for Agents in Maya from Yucatán”  by the Organizations of Garabide, Yuuyum Radio and Xkusamo'ob in the city of Mérida, Yucatán. She recently completed the "International Diploma in Applied Linguistics" at the Meritorious Autonomous University of Puebla in coordination with the Summer Institute of Linguistics, A.C. and the Intercultural University of the State of Puebla. 

She is certified in "Communicative Competences of Mayan Language and Culture" by the Universidad de Oriente  (UNO) Valladolid Yucatán, México, 2016. 

She collaborated in the making of the multimedia disc "Táan kanik maayáaj". This is a support material for learning the basic level of the Mayan Language at the Autonomous University of Campeche. She also collaborated in the making of the the manual "Táan Kanik Maayaj" intermediate level, 2005. 

Since 2009, she has collaborated with the peninsula institutions in the preparation of the book “ Writing Standards for the Mayan Language  (Maayat'aan) “U NU'UKBESAJIL U TS'ÍIBTA'AL MAAYAT'AAN” published by the National Institute of Native Languages  in 2014 and made official in the Official Journal of the Federation in October 2017. 

She collaborated with the Intercultural University of Quintana Roo (UIMQRoo) in José María Morelos y Pavón, Quintana Roo in the preparation for the Teaching Competence Standards for the Mayan Language of Yucatán; which was published in the Official Journal of the Federation in September 2018. 

She also performs translations into the Mayan language of materials for institutional and educational programs; she also makes recordings of informative capsules and radio spots at local and national level.
