Center sponsors Research Tutorials in Latin America

July 3, 2025

Together with the UF International Center, the Center is funding four Research Tutorials Abroad (RTAs) in Latin America this summer. RTAs are a valuable opportunity for UF faculty to take undergraduate students to their international field site to participate in their research.

  • Dr. John Diaz is investigating the expansion and improvement of telehealth access in the Granizal community of Colombia.
  • Dr. Jillian Hernandez is conducting oral histories about the nail industry and beauty culture in Santiago, Chile.
  • Dr. Akito Kawahara is researching bat-moth interactions in the biodiversity hotspot of the Amazon-Andean transition zone in Ecuador.
  • Dr. Robert Lamb is training students in field methods of marine ecological research and conservation in the Galápagos Islands.

Undergraduate students will have the chance to contribute to research with hands-on practice, collaborate with other scholars from partner institutions in-country, and enjoy an immersion experience abroad.

Thank you to the UF faculty for facilitating these meaningful opportunities for undergrads, and congratulations on your RTA's selection for funding!
