Gator Giving Day is February 17

February 1, 2022

Gator Giving Day is Thursday, February 17. This all-day fundraising event calls on the University of Florida alumni, students, faculty, staff, parents and families and friends to come together to support UF and all of its areas of positive impact in our state, nation and world.

Gifts to the Center for Latin American Studies strengthen our academic programs by funding scholarships and enhancing the quality of research, teaching and outreach in Latin American, Caribbean, and Latino studies at the University of Florida.

The Richmond F. Brown Graduate Student Fund

This year, the Center is highlighting the Richmond F. Brown Graduate Student Fund. This fund supports our master’s degree students at the Center, with a preference for students pursuing internships. It also honors the legacy of Richmond F. Brown, who served as the director of the Master’s in Latin American Studies program from 2006 until his untimely passing in 2016.

Under Dr. Brown's superb leadership, the MALAS program became a nationally-ranked program in terms of the quality of students, the coherence of the curriculum, and the support services for our students. He oversaw an exhaustive review of the MALAS program and instituted a number of changes, including the consolidation of the degree specializations and the introduction of the new internship option.
