“Out of the Shadow” seeks to present a more nuanced panorama of Guatemala’s pivotal democratic period

Dr. Heather Vrana, LAS affiliate faculty (Department of History) is co-editor of the recent book, “Out of the Shadow: Revisiting the Revolution from Post-peace Guatemala.” This collection of essays examines the Guatemalan Revolution (1944–54) and how and why this brief era of democracy still reverberates today. The book's four parts highlight regions, frameworks, and actors that challenge the dominant historical revolutionary narrative.
