Policy for Cross-Listing Courses at the Center for Latin American Studies
For professors from other units who wish to cross-list with the Center for Latin American Studies
Thank you for your interest in cross-listing a course with the Center for Latin American Studies. Many courses with Latin American content taught in other units count toward our minor, certificates, and master’s degrees. This document specifies the policies and required timeline for courses taught by instructors from other units to be cross-listed with the Center for Latin American Studies with a LAS prefix.
Cross-listing a course is a commitment to students and the Center that you will offer the cross-listed section. Therefore, it is important to have administrative commitment from your home unit to cross-list a course with the Center prior to requesting it. Please ensure that you have received approval from your home unit in advance.
To cross-list a course with the Center for Latin American Studies it has to have significant content related to Latin America and the Caribbean. For most courses, this means at least 50% of the course content; and for project-oriented courses (such as methodology courses, practicum courses, et cetera), this means that the student’s course project has to be focused on Latin America or the Caribbean.
If your course has not been cross-listed in the past, please send your syllabus to our Associate Director of Academic Programs, Luis Felipe Lomelí (luisgomezlomeli@ufl.edu), before the deadlines listed below.
If your course has been cross-listed in the past, please contact Po Echeguren, secheguren@latam.ufl.edu, before March 15 for summer cross-listing, June 15 for Fall cross-listing, and November 15 for Spring cross-listing.
For Center-based professors
Center-based professors who wish to cross-list their courses with other units need to a) notify the Associate Director of Academic Programs and the Academic Assistant, b) verify the requirements and timeline for cross-listing with the desired academic unit, and c) send in the required documentation, and the information of the contact in the other unit to the Academic Assistant (Po Echeguren) before the unit’s deadline to process the cross-listing in the system.
