Course description
Latinx Gulf Vibes explores the overlooked histories of Latinx settlement and migration across the Gulf of Mexico and into the U.S. South, tracing roots as far back as 1492. Together we will take a trip through 500 plus years of history and culture, uncovering rich narratives and examining primary sources that reveal the Gulf as both a cultural resource and economic engine. As the title suggests, the gulf is more than a geographical formation; it’s a vibe. Its unique energy, feeling, culture, and geography have shaped identities and histories in ways we’ll study together.
