Catherine Tucker publishes results from mountain governance survey

July 27, 2021

Core faculty Dr. Catherine Tucker (Anthropology) has recently published results from a global online survey of local mountain governance – the first of its kind. The study seeks to identify the main challenges to successful sustainable governance, which is key in protecting vital mountain ecosystems and the lives that depend on them.

Dr. Tucker is the lead of the Mountain Research Initiative’s Mountain Governance Working Group, which was formed in 2017. The group analyzed 75 responses from researchers and practitioners across five continents. While other studies have sought a more global or theoretical view, this study focused on local governance issues, which have more direct impact on human and environmental life.
