Carmen Diana Deere Director's Fund

Carmen Diana Deere Director's Fund

November 2, 2017

Dear Alumni and Center Friends,

As director of the Center for Latin American Studies, I would like to invite you to participate in the LATAM Days of Giving campaign.

Our goal is to raise $5,000 by the end of November for the Carmen Diana Deere Director's (CDD) Fund.

Dr. Deere was the Center director from 2004 to 2009 and has led a distinguished career in Latin American Studies. Under Dr. Deere's leadership, the Center developed various programs, such as the Crime, Law & Governance program, the Latino Studies program, and the Masters in Sustainable Development program. Upon her retirement, Dr. Deere announced the creation of the CDD Fund to help future Center directors maintain the University of Florida's preeminence in Latin American Studies.

Since its inception, the Center for Latin American Studies has strived to advance the knowledge about Latin America and the Caribbean by providing the best scholarly opportunities to a diverse and talented cohort of students. We continue to achieve this by hiring faculty members who are experts in their field, and hosting expert researchers and visiting scholars who help us enhance the scope and quality of research, teaching, and outreach at the University of Florida.

With your help, we now have the opportunity to aim higher! Your donation will help increase UF's preeminence in Latin American Studies by supporting new initiatives and special opportunities.

I hope you will join me in contributing to the Carmen Diana Deere Director's Fund by making a donation today via the University of Florida's Foundation website at https://www.uff.ufl.edu/giving-opportunities/019905-carmen-diana-deere-directors-fund-in-the-center-for-latin-american-studies/. You can make a one-time donation, or select to make recurring donations.

With your investment, I know we can reach this goal and continue to Go Greater!

Sincerely,

Philip J. Williams
