Protest Music, Ethnomusicology, Literature, Chilean New Song Movement, The Arts in Politics
I started college at Furman University as a music student studying classical guitar. After taking a Spanish course for a general education requirement, my professor suggested I continue taking Spanish classes past the requirement. So I took another. Then another. While taking another class after that, I declared both the Spanish major and the Latin American studies minor in addition to the music curriculum. The following summers I spent as a research fellow through the university analyzing Latin American protest music and co-presenting the resulting papers with a professor at numerous conferences. I am currently continuing my education here at UF in both LAS and music. I hope to continue to combine my two interests and further study the transformative power of music within the framework of Latin American politics.
