Having studied and cultivated a passion for the Spanish language since elementary school, one of the main things I wanted to do when I started college was study abroad in a Latin American country. During my time at the University of Delaware, I studied Spanish in Heredia, Costa Rica, for five weeks and spent a semester studying in Buenos Aires, Argentina. I was also thrilled to be selected to participate in the UD Honors Program’s alternative spring break program in the Dominican Republic twice, first as a participant and later as a program leader. After completing an Honors Bachelor of Arts in Spanish and political science with concentrations in Portuguese and global politics, I served as a college admissions counselor in Brazil for nearly two years. I then returned to the U.S. and worked in Penn State Global Programs for nearly four years, first with international students and then in education abroad.
Currently, I work as an academic advisor for the UF College of Journalism and Communications’ online master’s program. My goal in joining the MALAS program is to focus my studies on the region I am most passionate about and continue to use my career in higher education to build stronger bonds between Latin American and U.S. institutions through collaborative efforts like virtual exchange, study abroad, joint research initiatives, and more.
