Study Abroad-Multiculturalism in Brazil

A Study Abroad Exchange Program

The University of Florida Center for Latin American Studies offers semester study at both the Rio Grande do Sul Federal University (UFRGS) in Porto Alegre and the Pernambuco Federal University (UFPE) in Recife.

“One Nation of Many: Multiculturalism in Brazil and the United States”

Highlights:

  • Research projects and internships
  • Full complement of course offerings
  • Improve Portuguese Proficiency

This exchange program was created through the support of the U.S. and Brazilian Departments of Education (FIPSE and CAPES). In addition to coursework, students participating in this exchange will conduct a research project and/or participate in an internship relating to multiculturalism. Brazil and the United States are characterized by profound diversity and inequalities derived from distinctions among race, ethnicity, gender, and religion. Understanding the nature and consequences of such social conditions is critical to the educational development of students as citizens of their respective nations and the world.

Off-campus housing is relatively easy to find. Please contact the exchange coordinator, Aimee Green, for assistance with housing. She is happy to help you find the living situation that best suits your needs!

If you are interested in living on-campus, see the UF Housing Division website for more details on the on-campus housing application process. We recommend that you begin this process as soon as possible as space is extremely limited.
