B.A. in English Literature and Political Science, Minor in Latin American Studies - University of Florida
Law and policy in Latin America, international law, immigration, crime and governance in Latin America
Sofia is currently working towards her Juris Doctor at the University of Florida Levin College of Law in conjunction with the MALAS degree. As the daughter of an immigrant from El Salvador, her outlook on life has been strongly influenced by her heritage. Because of her ties to El Salvador, Sofia spent a portion of her undergraduate career exploring and researching, through various Latin American courses, the pervasiveness of the gang problem in Central America. Additionally, Sofia is currently spending her 2017 summer in Atlanta, Georgia interning for a non-profit organization which, among other services, represents immigrants from Central America seeking asylum in the United States. This experience has shaped her interest in researching prevalent immigration issues and hopefully developing research that will assist in an increase in the success of asylum cases.
