During his studies in Colombia, he acquired technical abilities within the field of molecular biology applied in Phytopathology, looking for viruses affecting one of the most important productive regions of pepper crops in his country. During his Bachelor’s, he developed working experience in different types of laboratories such as tissue culture, plant physiology, botanic and phytopathology laboratories, and gained experience working with biological control in crops systems including sugar cane. In 2018, Juan obtained the best thesis award thanks to the collaboration and experience obtained by being part of a top-tier investigation group (IPMA Research Group Plant Interaction/Group IPMA-UN).
