Marcia Porter, an award-winning soprano and professor of voice at the Florida State University College of Music, is an active recitalist who had performed in numerous venues and prestigious festivals throughout the United States, Italy, Brazil, and the Czech Republic. She is a graduate of the New Orleans Center for the Creative Arts and received by BM and MM degrees in voice performance from Northwestern University. Dr. Porter earned a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in performance from The University of Michigan. In 2011 - 2012, she was a Fulbright Scholar to Brazil.

Her research was entitled "Bridging boundaries through musical collaboration and cultural exchange: a lecture and recital series of contemporary classical Brazilian and African American vocal literature." During her residency at the Universidade de Sao Paulo, she presented numerous recitals, lectures, and master classes in cities throughout Brazil. Dr. Porter has served on the faculty of Ameropa International Chamber Music Festival in Prague, Czech Republic and as a visiting professor of voice at the Universidade de Sao Paulo. She is the Southeastern Regional Governor of the National Association of Teachers of Signing and serves on the organization's board of directors. Her discography includes the 2011 world premiere recording of Requiem fur Mozart, and Open Thine Heart, a recording of contemporary Americal vocal works.
