Tablas de Sarhua / Sarhua Boards From Peru
Latin American Folk Art Exhibit
September 13 - October 15
Cone Park Library Branch
2801 E. University Ave. Gainesville, FL 32641

Sarhua boards are also called quellcas, for their similarity to the ancient drawings that the Incas in Peru had made to note down events during their regime. They are colorful illustrations painted on a flat wooden board, portraying the town customs, and accompanied by a written explanation.

The exhibit will feature some of the charming scenes of the Peruvian Andes rural life: Ronday, Kanka, Plaza Tusuy, Qachua, Musicos, Pacio, Takiq, Niños Reyes, Conviday. These Sarhuas boards were made by Peruvian folk artists. Also, the exhibit offers a take-home children’s coloring activity. Open to both children and adults. The exhibition will be open until October 15.

This exhibit was possible with the support of the Williams-Condor Family, Peru Folk Craft Collection and the Cone Park Library Branch.
