Drag Performance Workshop With Malayka SN
October 13 | 1 - 4 pm
MCDA Rainbow Suite, Reitz Union

Malayka SN graduated from the School of Fine Arts of the Federal University of Bahia. She is a performer and currently develops research and works related to Drag Queen performativity, with emphasis on the aesthetics of monstrosity and its powerful reverberations when manifested in popular environments, bars, and the streets. As a graduate student in visual arts, she thinks of artistic education in a decolonial way and brings to his productions questions and thoughts that involve the dissident doing under a triad of identities, body, and space. They promote, in the Bahian “soteropolitana” scene, a performance night called "The Third Strangest of the World” in which Malayka SN integrates the Afrobapho and Monxtra House collectives into a night of performance. She draws on Afrofuturism and builds makeup and clothing based on body art.

Interested participants should bring their own materials to the workshop. Materials could range from dresses, shoes, trash bags, yarn, glitter, Dollar General make-up selections - be creative!

If you are unable to attend this workshop, a second one will be held on October 17 from 5-7 pm. Both workshops will culminate in a UF Gaytor Drag Race on October 18, at 7 pm in the Rion Ballroom.

The workshops and competition are open to all students of all genders.

Malayka SN will also give a guest lecture on October 19 from 2–4 pm in the Reitz Union, the room will be announced in the coming days.
