Brazilian Voices is an all women vocal group devoted to performing the rich repertoires of Brazilian music. The group, led by Beatriz Malnic, Loren Oliveira, and Viviane Neves, has been active since 2001 and has performed thousands of concerts in the USA and elsewhere including London, Mexico City and a European Tour. As a non-profit organization, the group relies almost solely on sponsorships and grants. They also host yearly auditions to bring in new members with the mission of integrating musicians and artists of their community to a brilliant multicultural group. Members are not compensated, and all profits revert to research and development of new community and philanthropic projects. Their dynamic repertoire, a unique mix of voices, and original arrangements are continually performed in unprecedented and exclusive concerts, with distinguished themes geared to projects and audiences.

“Brazilian Voices’ singers share a passion for singing and showcasing the best of Brazilian culture. Rehearsals are memorable, creative encounters when members spend precious time together training to achieve vocal excellence. It is a fun and stress-relieving activity that fosters an enormous amount of positive energy and wellbeing through music. Laughter and group hugs are an intrinsic part of this big musical family bonding.”

Specializing in the musical traditions of Latin America’s largest nation, UF’s Jacaré Brazil Instrumental (Brazilian music ensemble) led by Welson Tremura is the most diverse performance ensemble of its kind within a university performing arts program. The distinctive mixing of musical instruments such as the violin, mandolin, saxophone, guitar, and pandeiro (Brazilian tambourine) creates nostalgic sentiments with colorful and brilliant textures. Combining forces of different instrumental and vocal settings and offering contemporary instrumental arrangements, this concert explores the wealth of Brazilian music in a collaborative mode with the Brazilian Voices.

The collaboration among the two groups provided the proper atmosphere for creative work and cultural and musical exchange. Ultimately, offering our students, faculty, and the local and distant audience a true experience an exposition to artistic forms of Brazilian music. Listening to this music never fails to enrich one’s life and somehow festively imports a sense of sharing and community. Recapturing our own curiosity, stimulating it, or merely satisfying it, is something that challenges us every time we teach and perform. We can say this without any risk of being pretentious because our thirst is not quenched by us, but by the Music of Brazil as a whole.
