For students interested in the Summer B program: UF in Bahia: Race, Inequality, and Power

About the Program:

This program will examine the intersection between race, cultural appropriation, and urbanization in Salvador, Bahia. You will learn about the impact of the region’s historical legacies, how it leverages the past to attract tourism, and how these factors have interacted with the rapid urbanization of Latin America over the past 50 years. You will also tour neighborhoods, visit sites of Afro-Bahian resistance such as quilombos and candomblé terreiros, and engage with local organizations focused on grassroots mobilization & community revitalization.
