Latin American Business Environment
Focus and Prerequisites
The Master of Arts in Latin American Studies (MALAS) with a specialization in Business Environment gives students graduate level interdisciplinary training for careers dealing with business and investment in Latin America. Candidates are required to have undergraduate majors or minors in business, finance or economics. Some Latin American coursework and background is desirable.
MALAS Requirements
MALAS students must complete a total 33 course credits of approved course, write a thesis on a topic related to the specialization and demonstrate intermediate-high proficiency in Spanish or Portuguese.
The course requirements are distributed as follows:
- Two gateway seminars (LAS 6220-Issues and Perspectives in Latin American Studies and LAS 6293-Research Design and Methods in Latin American Studies) during first fall semester
- 15 credits of courses within the specialization
- 9 credits of Latin American content courses outside of the specialization (approved by Graduate Coordinator)
- 3 hours of LAS 6971-Research for Master’s Thesis
