Background

Tremura holds a joint appointment with the School of Music and the Center. He is a musician and ethnomusicologist well versed in Brazilian jazz, classical, and vocal music as well as traditional European classical forms. He focuses his research on folk Catholicism and Brazilian folk and popular music and also co-directs Jacaré Brazil, the Brazilian Music Ensemble at the University of Florida. Originally from the state of São Paulo, Tremura studied classical guitar with Marcos Barbosa and later attended Weber State University in Utah and The University of Tennessee where he received a M.M. in music. Tremura received a Ph.D. in musicology/ethnomusicology from Florida State University. Tremura also holds a law degree from UNERP in Brazil and has served as a development consultant and general manager for a major automotive manufacturing company in southern Brazil. Tremura has performed extensively in Brazil, USA, and Europe including Rotterdam for the International Double Reed Convention; Campos do Jordão, Brazil; Nashville Opry Theatre Concert with Barbara Mandrell and the US Air Force Orchestra Singing Sergeants, and American Cancer Society with Bernadette Peters.
