The University of Florida's Brazilian ensemble will perform an acoustic show in the intimate atmosphere of the Baughman Center at Lake Alice. Vocal and instrumental music from Brazil will be featured in a chamber-like setting with the UF cello and guitar ensembles as special guests. This performance is free of charge and open to the public.

Documentary on the current situation in Venezuela. Photo exhibit and introduction by film director, Chris Moore.
Moore spent two months in Venezuela filming "¿Puedo Hablar? / May I Speak?", following both candidates as they raced towards the December 3rd elections. The film offers its audience a snapshot portrait of a Venezuelan society at a crossroads; a re-elected president, challenged by a reformed and mounting opposition; a valuable starting block for any debate on current Venezuelan politics. His team journeyed to six different regions of Venezuela, shooting everywhere from the notorious barrios of Caracas to the oil-rich Lake Maracaibo, from a city of five million to an Amazonian pueblo of twenty-three, criss-crossing the country in everything from Chavista motocicletas to dug-out canoes and a private jet.

Join the Florida Museum, Mexicans in Gainesville and the Center for Latin American Studies as we celebrate life and the after-life on Día de los Muertos. Decorate the Museum with papel picado, admire regional birds from the Museum’s Ornithology collection and learn about regional customs. Enjoy a presentation on the Aztec notions of soul by Susan Gillespie. Then take a virtual bird-watching trip through the Mexican desert with Dr. David Steadman.

Guest artists Julio Cesar de Figueiredo and Roberto Sion will take center stage at a Jacaré Brazil concert at the Phillips Center for the Performing Arts. Directed by Welson Tremura and Larry Crook, Jacaré Brazil is joined by director David Waybright and the University of Florida Wind Symphony. The first half of the concert features UF’s Wind Symphony performing Latin American music with voices accompanied by Julio Cesar de Figueiredo (Paul Basler's Carnival and the Paulistana Suite, a homage to the city of São Paulo, Brazil). Roberto Sion, one of Brazil’s premier saxophonist and flutist, takes the stage after intermission. He is accompanied by Jacaré Brazil's percussionists and instrumentalists for a session of Brazilian jazz.
